Hilton Worldwide Launches New Corporate Identity

Hilton Worldwide (formerly Hilton Hotels Corporation), the leading global hospitality company, announced last week the launch of its new corporate name and logo.

Hilton's new name, Hilton Worldwide, signifies the company's global breadth and reach, and the logo incorporates key design elements that reflect Hilton’s rich heritage, vision for the future and commitment to excellence in service.

The new corporate name and logo follow the company’s recent relocation of its global headquarters from Beverly Hills, Calif., to McLean, Va. Hilton Worldwide’s portfolio of ten brands comprises more than 3,300 hotels in 77 countries around the world. The company will open more than 300 hotels this year.

A haboob is a real thing...I swear!

The word haboob comes from the Arabic word هبوب "strong wind or 'phenomenon'."

A haboob is a type of intense sandstorm commonly observed in the Sahara desert, as well as throughout Kuwait, and in the most arid regions of Iraq. In the United States, they are frequently observed in the deserts of Arizona outside of Phoenix.

During thunderstorm formation, winds move in a direction opposite to the storm's travel, and they will move from all directions into the thunderstorm. When the storm collapses and begins to release precipitation, wind directions reverse, gusting outward from the storm and generally gusting the strongest in the direction of the storm's travel.

When this downdraft, or downburst, reaches the ground, dry, loose sand from the desert settings is essentially blown up, creating a wall. This wall of sand can be up to 60 miles wide and a few miles in high. At their strongest, haboob winds can travel at 20-30 mph and they may approach with little to no warning and can create zero visibility!

You get home unpack and realize that once again you are going to have to make a trip to Best Buy. Well, here's a little secret...most hotels I have ever been to or worked at have a box full of cell phone chargers that have been left behind. Next time you check in ask if you can search the hotels cell phone charger box to see if one of the left behind chargers fits your phone!

What is a monsoon you ask?

During the monsoon, or summer thunderstorm season, Arizona experiences more severe weather than many other states. These summer thunderstorms can be dangerous. Monsoon is a weather condition that is actually defined as a season. In Arizona, we typically experience monsoon storms during the summer. Humidity levels increase and the season is marked by wind storms, dust storms, and periods of heavy desert rains. On rare occasions, a severe storm may even spawn a tornado. More often, we experience high winds, dust storms and severe downpours resulting in flash floods during this season.

In Phoenix, the monsoon is considered to have arrived when we have three consecutive days of dew point averages of 55 degrees or higher. The average starting date of the monsoon is July 7. The average ending date of the monsoon is September 13.

Westgate City Center will host this year’s All-Star Sunday, a kickoff to the Little League State Tournament games. Going Green

As the Hampton Inn brand implements our Take Care initiatives, we will soon replace the Styrofoam and plastic cups in guest rooms with an eco-friendly version. Hampton Inn needs to make a decision about whether or not to wrap the new cups in cellophane. While eliminating the cellophane is eco-friendly and cost effective, we’d like your thoughts on guest perception. Wrapping our cups is a long tradition with the brand, and we want to validate that it is still a relevant guest expectation. While there is a cost difference of approximately $.03 per cup, meeting guest expectations is priceless.

4th of July Fun in Goodyear
